You need to know about any diseases that your ancestors may have had which is an actual medical profession called historical epidemiology. We had a historical epidemiologist speak at our local genealogical society and he informed us on the history of influenza. Americans called one variety the "Spanish" flu. Which makes me wonder if in Spain they called it the "American" flu? All in all it was a very interesting topic.
